Hampton Analysis
The following was posted to the Mockingbird Foundation website on October 9, 2008: Stat Analysis Suggests Bust-Outs at Spaceship Hampton Hardcore Methodology has Hardcore Phans Excited Phish’s return to the stage next March is destined to involve screams of joy, lots of press, and several new songs. The band will perform three shows at Hampton Coliseum in Virginia, after more than 4.5...

How the LP free downloads will work
Live Phish just sent out an email explaining the free mp3s.  Any ticket stub, be it Ticketmaster, PTBM, or the weird things Tickethorse has are eligible. You just type in the bar code number and that will unlock a download. This leads two interesting possibilities.  The first is that it’s likely a trading forum of some sort will open up.  Mel and I both have 10/10/10 but we only need one...

Biggest Debut Month(s) in Phishtory
Phish has of course debuted more songs in October than any other month (130). While only 71 of those were on Halloweens as part of the band’s “musical costumes”, leaving 59 other October debuts, November comes in first (with 70) if Halloween is discounted. June’s right behind (with 69). Interestingly, October is the month with the most lost songs - the most songs last...

iReport Fall Tour
CNN’s put together a nice set of “how-to” guides for doing on-the-street/at-the-scene interviews and reports. If you have a decent mobile video solution (iPhone, Droid, etc.), consider posting iReports from fall tour. And if you do, let us know so that we can relay them here!

Phish.net Technology Update
It’s been an exciting two weeks here at Phish.net HQ. We brought you the Mike Gordon contest (winners to be announced shortly!), shared 14 Lesser Known Features of Phish.net, and announced the Phamily Poker Classic to be held in Atlantic City at Halloween. Today, I want to share some technical developments going on at Phish.net. We’re putting the finishing touches on version 2 of...

Interesting article on camera phones
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704129204575506281834570988.html After Justin.tv released new apps for iPhones and Androids this month, the number of users broadcasting from their phones (as opposed to desktop webcams) surged to more than 30%. In music, fans of the jam-band Phish were early adopters. Since the group reunited last year, many of its shows have been watchable...

Phish mention in Modern Family Premiere
Phish was mentioned as part of mnemonic device on the Fall 2010 premiere of Modern Family last night (see around 5:11 in this Hulu stream): “His name was Karl. Now, normally, I might forget that name, but he was wearing a Grateful Dead shirt. Which band’s like the Grateful Dead? Phish. Where do fish live? In the ocean. What else is in the ocean? Coral… Karl.”

PHISH-NEWS newsletter moved to new mailserver,...
Since 1996, Phish.net has continuously offered phans an occasional email newsletter, PHISH-NEWS, for providing new setlist information during Phish tour, news about upcoming tours and other information of interest. Until this summer, the email and webserver services for Phish.net were provided by the fan operated, not-for-profit Netspace Foundation (netspace.org).  In June, Phish.net migrated to...

Phish.net API 2.0 nears rollout
Our webmaster, Adam Scheinberg (sethadam1), is putting the finishing touches on an updated and improved version of the Phish.net API.  API is an acronym for “Application Programming Interface”, or in non-computerese, bits of programming code often called “hooks” or “plug ins” that allow for third-party developers’ websites and programs to interact with the...

Paperless ticket follow up
What’s the net result of the paperless ticket of Broomfield (along with the “fun” that was Tickethorse)?  Looks like tons of money for the scalpers.  Yes, the western half of the country is still starved and the east coast is over saturated, but the inability for fans to trade amongst themselves helped propel tickets on Stubhub to twice that of any other show.  Right now, the...

Third Most Frequent Debuts Day (tied)
Phish has of course debuted more songs on Halloween (71) than on any other day of the year, with a “musical costume” (covering another band’s album in its entirety, as the 2nd of 3 sets) in 1994 (The Beatles), 1995 (The Who), 1996 (Talking Heads), 1998 (Velvet Underground), and 2009 (Rolling Stones). Second place is June 6th, with 18 debuts in 1997 alone and others in 2006 and...

Broomfield is paperless
Along the lines of the Telluride tickets, Broomfield tickets will be non-transferable paperless tickets.  Unfortunately, I feel like this backfired in Telluride, making it so people who wanted to go had no recourse other than to get lucky on day of sale. I understand the desire to stop scalping but the scalpers all just bought disposable credit cards (and mailed those off).  Meanwhile if someone...

Split Open and Melt!?
My wife Jennifer, who, by comparison, is not a very big Phish fan, gave me the green light to go to Atlantic City for Halloween this year. She asked me recently, “What do you want to hear them play?”  Now, I’ve been chasing Camel Walk for some time, but before I even could process it, I reflexively responded “I could really go for a nice, meaty Split Open and Melt.” ...

Shows worth revisiting and rediscovering (9-21-99)
9/21/1999 This was the fifth show of a six show run that spanned only 7 days.  Really, the most intense “touring” I ever did in my Phish career.  My wife and best friend did the Tucson > Las Cruces leg as the Three Musketeers, and we were at the head of the pack this day when doors opened to secure ourselves spots on the rail. To put this in context, it was the night that some kid...
